Landmine Exercises: Technique and Training Guide

Learn what a landmine is, how to use it for barbell exercises, and how to manage setup, stance, grip, movement control and load.

A landmine is an anchored pivot for a barbell. By holding the free end, you can perform pressing, rowing and rotational movements through a guided arc.

What is landmine training?

For landmine exercises, one end of the barbell sits in a fixed sleeve while the other end moves through an angled path. This setup supports movements such as the landmine press and row, with the bar providing a clear line of travel. You still need to control your stance, grip and trunk position throughout each repetition.

Practical training guidance

Check that the sleeve or anchor is secure before loading the bar, and start with a weight you can control smoothly. Keep your feet planted, brace your torso and avoid letting the bar rebound at the end of a rep. Leave enough clearance around the bar and adjust the load to your experience.

Landmine Chest Press Chest

Landmine Chest Press

The Landmine Chest Press is a dynamic exercise that targets the chest muscles using a landmine setup. This exercise offers a unique variation on the traditional bench press by using a different angle and resistance pattern, providing a new stimulus for muscle growth and strength. Execution Place
Landmine Row Lats

Landmine Row

The Landmine Row is a powerful exercise that targets the back muscles and offers a unique variation on the traditional rowing movement. Due to the angle and the way you hold the bar, you can build strength in a different way and challenge your back muscles. Execution Secure one end of a long bar
