Landmine Chest Press

The Landmine Chest Press is a dynamic exercise that targets the chest muscles using a landmine setup. This exercise offers a unique variation on the traditional bench press by using a different angle and resistance pattern, providing a new stimulus for muscle growth and strength.

Execution

  1. 1
Place one end of a barbell in the landmine holder or in the corner of the room to stabilize it.
  2. 2
Add weight plates to the free end of the barbell as desired.
  3. 3
Stand facing the landmine and grasp the end of the barbell with both hands, keeping your hands close together.
  4. 4
Step back until you are in a split stance, with one foot in front of the other for stability.
  5. 5
Lean slightly forward from your hips and bring the barbell to your chest; this is your starting position.
  6. 6
explosively press the barbell away from your chest until your arms are fully extended.
  7. 7
Slowly and controllably return the barbell to the starting position.
  8. 8
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves chest muscle strength and size.
  • Provides a unique angle that loads the muscles differently, which can lead to new muscle growth.
  • The setup creates a natural arcing movement that is friendlier to the shoulders than traditional presses.
  • Strengthens the stabilizing muscles through the balance and coordination required.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Increasing the weight too quickly without maintaining proper form.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms at the end of the movement.
  • ! Arching the back too much during the exercise, which can lead to unnecessary stress on the lower back.
  • ! Not lowering the barbell in a controlled manner, reducing the effectiveness of the exercise and increasing the risk of injury.

Primary Muscles

The Landmine Chest Press primarily targets the pectoralis major and triceps. The shoulders (deltoids) and, to a lesser extent, the core are also engaged for stability during the exercise.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners or people with shoulder problems: reduce the weight or use a lighter barbell.
  • To increase the intensity: add more weight or increase the number of repetitions.
  • As a variation: try the standing or seated Landmine Press on a bench to change the angle and the muscles targeted.
