Parallel Bar Exercises and Training | Fitness

Explore parallel bar exercises, from support holds to dips, and learn how to set up the equipment and train with controlled technique.

Parallel bars are two evenly spaced rails used for bodyweight training, including dips, support holds, and controlled leg movements.

Training with parallel bars

The bars provide a stable hand position while allowing the body to move freely without cables or weight plates. Depending on the exercise, you may work from a supported position, between the bars, or with your feet on the floor. The loading changes with each movement and body position.

Practical guidance

Before training, check that the bars are stable and that there is clear space around them. Keep the wrists as neutral as comfortable, move under control, and use a range of motion suited to your experience. Stop if you feel sharp pain or instability; beginners may benefit from an easier variation or coaching.
