Resistance Bands: Exercises and Training Guide

Learn how to use resistance bands for strength, mobility, and stability, with practical tips for controlled and safer training.

Resistance bands are elastic training tools for strength, mobility, and stability work. You can hold a band, anchor it to a secure point, or place it around the body to adjust resistance throughout a movement.

What are resistance bands?

Resistance bands come in different lengths, thicknesses, and resistance levels. Lighter bands can suit warm-ups and mobility drills, while stronger bands add challenge to movements such as rows, presses, and squats. Their compact size makes them useful at home, while travelling, or alongside free-weight training.

Training safely with resistance bands

Inspect the band for cracks, fraying, or damaged handles before each session. Use only a secure anchor point and keep your face and fingers clear of the band’s possible recoil path. Select a resistance that allows smooth, controlled repetitions from start to finish.
