Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
  2. 2
Slowly lower yourself by bending your elbows while keeping them close to your body.
  3. 3
Push yourself up by straightening your arms until you return to the starting position.
  4. 4
Keep your back straight and do not let your hips sag throughout the movement.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves shoulder stability.
  • Strengthens the muscles around the elbow and wrist, contributing to better performance in other exercises.
  • Helps build a strong core through the plank position.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering or pushing up too quickly: Use a controlled movement to get the most out of the exercise.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to flare too far out: This can cause unnecessary strain on the shoulders.
  • ! Letting the hips sag: This can place pressure on the lower back and reduce the effectiveness of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

The Elbow Press primarily trains the deltoids (shoulders), triceps (back of the arms), and pectoralis major (chest muscles).

Possible Alternatives

  • Elbow Press against the wall: For beginners or people with less strength, performing the exercise against a wall can help them master the technique.
  • Elevated Elbow Press: Placing your feet on an elevated surface, such as a bench, increases the intensity of the exercise.
