Arm Circles
Arm Circles are a simple yet effective exercise to strengthen your shoulders and arms. This exercise requires no equipment, can be performed anywhere, and offers a great way to warm up or train your upper body.
Benefits
- Improves the mobility and flexibility of the shoulder joints.
- Helps build endurance in the upper-body muscles.
- May help reduce shoulder pain by strengthening the surrounding muscles.
- Is a low-impact exercise that can be performed without equipment.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving too quickly: Performing the circles too quickly can lead to less effective muscle activation. Focus on controlled movements.
- ! Making circles too large: This can place unnecessary strain on the shoulders. Keep the circles small and manageable.
- ! Bending the arms: Bending your arms during the exercise reduces its effectiveness. Keep your arms straight.
Instructions
- Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Extend your arms out to the sides until they are parallel to the floor.
- Rotate your arms in small forward circles for approximately 30 seconds.
- Then change direction and rotate your arms in small backward circles for another 30 seconds.
- Keep your arms straight throughout the entire exercise.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the deltoids (shoulders), as well as the trapezius (upper back) and the muscles in your upper arms, such as the biceps and triceps.
Possible Alternatives
- To increase the intensity, you can hold small weights or water bottles in your hands.
- For a variation, try performing the arm circles while in a squat position to train your legs as well.
- If you are looking for a less intense option, you can perform the exercise while seated.
