Child's Pose
Child's Pose, or Balasana, is a relaxing stretch that helps relax your body and mind. This exercise is ideal at the end of your workout or during yoga to relax your muscles and deepen your breathing.
Execution
-
1
Begin on your hands and knees on a comfortable surface.
-
2
Spread your knees slightly wider than hip-width apart while keeping your big toes touching.
-
3
Exhale and lower your buttocks toward your heels.
-
4
Extend your arms in front of you on the floor and lower your forehead toward the ground.
-
5
Hold this position while breathing deeply in and out. Try to relax your body further with each exhalation.
-
6
Remain in this position for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on your comfort level.
Benefits
This exercise offers several benefits, including reducing stress and tension in your body, improving flexibility in your hips, thighs, and ankles, and promoting better blood circulation. It may also help relieve back and neck pain.
Common Mistakes
- ! Putting too much pressure on your knees. Make sure you are comfortable and adjust the position of your knees if necessary.
- ! Not breathing fully. Focus on deep, calm breaths to get the most out of the exercise.
Primary Muscles
Child's Pose primarily targets stretching the back muscles, shoulders, and hips. It also helps relax the muscles around the spine.
Possible Alternatives
If the standard Child's Pose is too intense, try keeping your thighs closer together or place a rolled-up towel under your buttocks for extra support. For more intensity, you can place your arms alongside your body with your palms facing up, which increases the stretch in your shoulders.
