Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a plank position with your hands on the floor slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Engage your abdominal muscles and keep your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
  3. 3
Slowly lower yourself by bending your elbows until your chest nearly touches the floor.
  4. 4
Press yourself back up to the starting position by straightening your arms.

Benefits

In addition to strengthening the muscle groups mentioned above, push-ups also help improve your posture and may contribute to better stability of your shoulder joints.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Letting your body sag or keeping your hips too high.
  • ! Allowing your elbows to point too far outward during the exercise.
  • ! Not lowering or pushing up fully with each repetition.

Major Muscles

Push-ups target several muscle groups, including the chest muscles (pectoralis major), triceps, the fronts of the shoulders (anterior deltoids), and the muscles in your core.

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity, you can try knee push-ups if the standard push-up is too challenging, or elevated push-ups with your feet on an elevated surface for a greater challenge.
