Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench or sturdy surface that is stable enough to support your weight.
  2. 2
Place your hands on the edge of the bench, just slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3
Extend your legs in front of you, with your heels on the floor. This is your starting position.
  4. 4
Slowly lower your body by bending your elbows until they form an angle of approximately 90 degrees.
  5. 5
Push yourself up by extending your arms until you return to the starting position.
  6. 6
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the chest muscles.
  • Improves arm strength through triceps involvement.
  • May help improve shoulder stability.
  • Flexible and can be performed anywhere.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering or rising too quickly: Use a controlled movement to prevent injuries and train the muscles effectively.
  • ! Going too deep: Do not lower beyond a 90-degree angle at the elbows to prevent overloading the shoulders.
  • ! Arching the back too much: Keep your back straight to train the correct muscles and avoid back pain.

Main Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major), while the triceps and anterior shoulder muscles (anterior deltoids) are also effectively trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a weight belt or place your feet on an elevated surface.
  • For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by bending the knees and placing the feet closer to the body.
  • Alternatively, you can use parallel bars for a more traditional dip exercise, which places greater emphasis on the triceps.
