Assisted Weighted Push-Up

The Assisted Weighted Push-Up is an advanced variation of the classic push-up, designed to further develop your strength and muscular endurance. By adding extra weight, you increase the intensity of the exercise, while the assistance helps you perform the technique correctly and gradually add more weight.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin in the standard push-up position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart on the floor.
  2. 2
Place a weight on your upper back. This can be a weighted vest, weight plate, or sandbag, depending on what you have available.
  3. 3
Lower yourself in a controlled manner until your chest almost touches the floor. Keep your body in a straight line.
  4. 4
Push yourself explosively back up to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Increases the strength and endurance of the upper-body muscles.
  • Improves stability and core strength by requiring you to keep your body in a straight line.
  • Allows you to gradually increase the intensity by adding more weight.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Allowing the hips to sag, which can place unnecessary stress on the lower back.
  • ! Lowering or pushing up too quickly, resulting in a loss of control over the movement.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms at the top of the movement.

Targeted Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major), triceps, and anterior shoulder muscles (anterior deltoids). The core muscles are also activated to keep the body stable during the movement.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners: Start with the classic push-up without weight to master the technique.
  • To reduce the intensity: Use a lighter weight or perform the exercise with your knees on the floor.
  • To increase the intensity: Add more weight or try performing the exercise with one hand.
