Execution

  1. 1
Grip a barbell with an underhand grip (palms facing up), with your hands approximately 15–20 cm apart.
  2. 2
Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Keep your elbows close to your body.
  3. 3
Exhale and curl the barbell upward toward your chest, moving only your forearms.
  4. 4
Hold briefly at the top and contract your biceps firmly.
  5. 5
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the barbell back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the biceps and forearm muscles.
  • Improves grip strength, which is useful for other exercises.
  • Helps develop a more defined biceps peak.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing you to swing your body. Focus on a weight that allows you to keep the movement fully controlled.
  • ! Allowing your elbows to change position during the exercise. Keep them in the same position throughout the exercise.
  • ! Not fully extending your arms at the bottom of the movement, resulting in less muscle activation.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, with additional emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearm.

Possible Alternatives

  • If you do not have a barbell available, you can also perform this exercise with dumbbells or an EZ-curl bar for a different grip and tension on the muscles.
  • Change the grip width to emphasize different parts of the biceps.
  • Add a resistance band to the barbell for extra resistance at the end of the movement.
