Execution

  1. 1
Adjust the preacher bench so that you can sit comfortably with your arms resting on the pad.
  2. 2

  3. 3
Grip the bar with both hands using an underhand grip, with your palms facing upward.
  4. 4
Inhale and curl the bar upward toward your shoulders while keeping your upper arms still.
  5. 5
Squeeze your biceps at the top of the movement.
  6. 6
Exhale and slowly and controllably lower the bar back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves biceps isolation by stabilizing the upper arms.
  • Provides constant tension on the biceps through the use of cables.
  • Helps develop a peak in the biceps.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, which can lead to using momentum instead of isolating the biceps.
  • ! Failing to fully extend the arms at the bottom of the movement.
  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly, which reduces its effectiveness.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the biceps brachii, with secondary involvement from the brachialis and brachioradialis muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • Use a dumbbell instead of a cable for a variation in resistance.
  • Try performing the exercise standing with a preacher curl stand for a different angle.
  • Alternate between a wide and narrow grip on the bar to emphasize different parts of the biceps.
