  • Overhead Triceps Stretch with Side Angle

Benefits

  • Improves flexibility in the triceps and shoulders.
  • Helps prevent injuries by improving muscle balance around the shoulder joint.
  • May help relieve tension and pain in the upper back and neck.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pushing too hard on the elbow, which can lead to overstretching.
  • ! Arching the back instead of keeping it straight, which reduces the effectiveness of the stretch.
  • ! Tensing the neck during the exercise.

Instructions

  1. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Raise one arm overhead and then bend your elbow so that your palm touches your upper back.
  3. Use your other hand to gently push the elbow of the bent arm backward and downward until you feel a stretch in the triceps of the bent arm.
  4. Hold this position for 15 to 30 seconds, then switch arms.
  5. Keep your back straight and your neck relaxed during the stretch.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the triceps brachii, but it also benefits the muscles around the shoulders and upper back.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the stretch is too intense, try pushing the arm less far backward.
  • For a deeper stretch, try performing the exercise while seated on a chair, keeping your back straight and your abdominal muscles engaged.
  • Another variation is to perform the stretch while leaning against a wall to help keep your back straight.
