Benefits

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion in the shoulders.
  • Helps relieve tension and stiffness in the upper back and neck.
  • Promotes better posture by opening the chest.
  • May help prevent shoulder injuries by improving mobility.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Overstretching: Make sure you do not push too far and listen to your body. The stretch should feel comfortable.
  • ! Incorrect posture: Make sure your back remains straight and your shoulders are down and back during the exercise.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the deltoids (shoulder muscles) and the muscles around the chest, including the pectoralis major and minor.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the stretch is too intense, try reducing the stretch by bringing your arm less far across your body or by placing your hands on your lower back instead of interlacing them.
  • For a deeper stretch, try the exercise while sitting on a chair or on the floor, which may help stabilize your posture.
