Benefits

  • Improves muscle balance between the left and right sides of your body.
  • Increases stability and strength in the shoulders and arms.
  • Stimulates core stability through the seated position and alternating movement.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on a slow, controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy: Start with lighter weights to ensure proper form and prevent injuries.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to flare too far outward: Keep your elbows pointing inward to activate the correct muscles.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily works the deltoids (shoulders), with secondary involvement of the triceps (back of the arms) and upper chest muscles. Your core is also activated to provide stability during the exercise.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, perform the exercise without weights or with lighter dumbbells.
  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise standing to require greater core stability.
  • Use an exercise ball instead of a bench to challenge your core even more.
