Benefits

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion in the shoulders.
  • Helps prevent shoulder injuries by strengthening the muscles and tendons around the shoulders.
  • Relieves tension and stiffness in the neck and upper back, especially important for people who spend a lot of time sitting.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Overstretching: Make sure you do not push too far, which can lead to overstretching and possible injury.
  • ! Incorrect posture: Keep your back straight and your shoulders down and back to get the most effective stretch.

Primary Muscles

This stretch primarily targets the rear deltoids, but also benefits the trapezius and rhomboid muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, perform the stretch while leaning against a wall. This creates a deeper stretch in the rear deltoids.
  • For a milder variation, use a towel or resistance band to pull your arm across your body, giving you more control over the intensity of the stretch.
