EZ-Bar Upright Row
The EZ-bar upright row is an effective exercise for strengthening your shoulders and upper back. What makes this exercise unique is that it not only isolates your muscles but also contributes to better posture and grip strength.
Execution
-
1
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and grasp the EZ bar with an overhand grip that is slightly narrower than shoulder-width.
-
2
Keep your back straight and your knees slightly bent.
-
3
Lift the bar toward your chin by moving your elbows up and out. Make sure your elbows are always higher than your forearms.
-
4
Slowly and under control, lower the bar back to the starting position.
Benefits
- Improves the strength and shape of your shoulders and upper back.
- Helps develop better posture.
- Increases grip strength through the use of the EZ bar.
Common Mistakes
- ! Lifting too heavy, causing you to swing your body. Make sure you choose a weight that allows you to perform the movement under control.
- ! Lifting the bar too high, causing your shoulders to move into an unnatural position. Stop when the bar reaches chin height.
- ! Keeping your elbows too low. Make sure your elbows are always the highest point of the movement.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the deltoids (shoulders), the trapezius (upper back), and, to a lesser extent, the biceps.
Possible Alternatives
- If an EZ bar is not available, you can also perform this exercise with dumbbells or a straight barbell.
- To increase the intensity, you can pause when the bar reaches the highest point.
- For beginners, lowering the weight and increasing the number of repetitions can help improve technique.
