Pelvis Lifts
The Pelvis Lift, also known as the bridge exercise, is a fantastic way to strengthen your core, glutes, and hamstrings. This exercise not only helps build muscle strength, but also improves your posture and can reduce back pain.
Benefits
- Strengthens the muscles involved in movements such as walking, running, and jumping.
- Helps stabilize the spine and may therefore prevent back problems.
- Improves posture by strengthening the core.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving up and down too quickly: take your time with each repetition to maximize muscle activation.
- ! Lifting the hips too high or not high enough: maintain a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the highest point.
- ! Allowing the knees to collapse inward or fall outward: keep them aligned with your hips.
Instructions
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart.
- Place your arms alongside your body with your palms facing down.
- Engage your abdominal muscles and lift your hips off the floor until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
- Hold this position for a few seconds, making sure to keep your glutes engaged.
- Slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.
- Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.
Primary Muscles
- Gluteus maximus (glutes)
- Hamstrings (back of the thighs)
- Core (abdominal muscles and lower back)
Possible Alternatives
- To increase the intensity, you can place a weight on your pelvis or use a resistance band around your thighs.
- For lower intensity, you can perform the bridge with one leg, keeping one leg extended while lifting your hips.
- If you need more stability, you can perform the exercise near a wall, placing your feet against the wall for extra support.
