Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a mat, with your arms alongside your body and your palms facing down.
  2. 2
Extend your legs straight up toward the ceiling so that your body forms a straight line from your toes to your hips.
  3. 3
Inhale and press your lower back firmly against the mat while engaging your abdominal muscles.
  4. 4
As you exhale, slowly lift your hips off the mat by pushing your legs further toward the ceiling.
  5. 5
Hold this position briefly, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.

Benefits

In addition to strengthening your core, this exercise also helps improve control of your abdominal muscles and may contribute to better posture and reduced back pain.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Take your time to perform each repetition in a controlled manner.
  • ! Not fully extending the legs: Make sure your legs are fully extended to ensure maximum effectiveness.
  • ! Putting too much pressure on the neck: Keep your neck relaxed and focus on using your abdominal muscles.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the rectus abdominis (the 'six-pack' muscles) and the obliques (side abdominal muscles).

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the exercise, you can consider performing leg raises with bent knees or holding a light medicine ball between your feet for extra resistance.
