Execution

  1. 1
Set the bench to an angle of approximately 30 to 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Lie back on the bench and hold a dumbbell in each hand beside your shoulders, with your palms facing each other.
  3. 3
Press the dumbbells upward until your arms are extended. Make sure not to let the dumbbells touch at the top.
  4. 4
Lower the dumbbells slowly and under control to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle definition in the upper chest.
  • Helps develop a balanced chest.
  • May help improve overall strength for other pressing exercises.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving the weights up or down too quickly.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms.
  • ! Lowering the dumbbells too far inward or outward, which can lead to shoulder injuries.

Key Muscles

The primary focus is on the upper chest muscles (pectoralis major), but the exercise also engages the anterior deltoids and triceps.

Possible Alternatives

  • Change the bench angle to emphasize different parts of the chest muscles.
  • Use a barbell instead of dumbbells for variety.
  • Add a rotation of the wrists at the top of the movement to engage the triceps more.
