Execution

  1. 1
Set the bench at an angle of approximately 30 to 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Lie on your back on the bench and hold a dumbbell in each hand above your chest, with your arms slightly bent.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the dumbbells to the sides while keeping your elbows slightly bent.
  4. 4
Once you feel a good stretch in your chest, bring the dumbbells back together above your chest while exhaling.
  5. 5
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle definition in the upper chest.
  • Helps develop a balanced chest.
  • May help improve shoulder stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly: use a controlled movement to prevent injuries and train the muscles effectively.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy: this can lead to incorrect form and possible injury. Start light and increase gradually.
  • ! Bending the elbows too much: keep your elbows slightly bent but stable to target the correct muscles.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the upper chest muscles (pectoralis major), but it also engages the shoulders (deltoids) and, to a lesser extent, the triceps.

Possible Alternatives

  • Flat Dumbbell Fly: For when you want to place more focus on the mid-chest.
  • Cable Fly: Provides constant resistance throughout the entire movement, which may help with muscle growth.
  • Machine Fly: Good for beginners to master the movement with less risk of injury.
