Execution

  1. 1
Find an incline bench and set it to an angle of approximately 30 to 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie back on the bench. Hold the dumbbells at shoulder height with your palms facing each other.
  3. 3
Inhale and press the dumbbells upward by extending your elbows until your arms are almost fully extended above your chest. Make sure not to let the dumbbells touch at the top.
  4. 4
Slowly and under control, lower the dumbbells back to the starting position while exhaling.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle definition in the upper chest.
  • Strengthens the triceps and shoulders.
  • Helps correct muscle imbalances between the left and right sides of the body.
  • The palms-in grip reduces stress on the shoulder joints, making it ideal for people with shoulder problems.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to less muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Lowering the dumbbells too far outward or inward, which can place unnecessary stress on the shoulders.
  • ! Fully locking out the elbows at the top, which shifts tension away from the muscles and onto the joints.

Introduction

The Dumbbell Incline Palm-In Press is an effective strength exercise that targets the chest muscles with a unique variation. The incline position and palms-in grip place greater emphasis on the upper chest and triceps while also activating the shoulder muscles. This variation can add variety to your routine and help develop balanced chest musculature.

Main Muscles

This exercise primarily trains the upper chest muscles (pectoralis major), triceps, and anterior deltoids.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can adjust the incline angle of the bench. A higher angle places more emphasis on the shoulders.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise with a resistance band instead of dumbbells.
  • If you have access to a Smith machine or another type of machine, you can also perform the Palm-In Press for greater stability and focus on the muscles.
