Execution

  1. 1
Begin by selecting the appropriate weight. It is important to choose a weight that allows you to perform the exercise correctly without losing your form.
  2. 2
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with your arms at your sides.
  3. 3
Inhale and bend your elbows to slowly lift the weights toward your shoulders. Make sure your upper arms remain still.
  4. 4
Hold the top position briefly, then exhale as you slowly lower the weights back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the muscles in your upper arm, contributing to better performance in both daily activities and other sports.
  • Improves grip strength, which is especially useful when lifting heavy objects.
  • Increases shoulder stability, which may reduce the risk of injuries.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can result in less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Using a weight that is too heavy, causing you to lose your form and fail to train the correct muscles.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to move outward, which shifts the emphasis away from the biceps and places more stress on the shoulders.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis in your upper arm. The muscles in your forearms and your deltoids are also trained to a lesser extent.

Possible Alternatives

  • If you want to increase the intensity, try performing the exercise on an unstable surface such as a Bosu ball or a stability cushion.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise seated, which helps stabilize your back and allows you to focus on the arm movement.
  • Use resistance bands instead of dumbbells for a different form of resistance.
