Dumbbell Preacher Curl

The Dumbbell Preacher Curl is a popular exercise for isolating the biceps. The support provided by the preacher bench makes it more difficult to cheat with your body weight, resulting in a more effective biceps workout.

Execution

  1. 1
Find a preacher bench and select a suitable weight for your dumbbells.
  2. 2
Sit on the preacher bench and place your upper arms on the pad. Make sure your elbows and upper arms are fully supported.
  3. 3
Grip a dumbbell in each hand with an underhand grip (palms facing upward).
  4. 4
Inhale and curl the dumbbells upward toward your shoulders. Keep your upper arms still and move only your forearms.
  5. 5
Squeeze your biceps at the top of the movement.
  6. 6
Exhale and slowly and under control lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.
  7. 7
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Isolation of the biceps for more effective muscle growth.
  • Improves elbow stability through the support of the preacher bench.
  • Helps develop better form and technique by limiting body movement.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, which can lead to poor form and possible injuries.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms at the bottom of the movement, resulting in less muscle activation.
  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly, placing more emphasis on the downward movement than on muscle contraction.

Target Muscles

The primary focus of the Dumbbell Preacher Curl is the biceps brachii. The brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearm are also trained secondarily.

Possible Alternatives

  • Barbell Preacher Curl for a variation that trains both arms simultaneously.
  • Hammer Curl on the preacher bench for greater emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
  • Adjust the angle of the preacher bench, if possible, to emphasize different parts of the biceps.
