Drag Curls - Biceps

  • Drag Curls - Biceps
  • Drag Curls - Biceps

Introduction: Drag curls are an effective biceps exercise that targets the long head of the biceps, helping create a fuller, higher peak. This exercise differs from traditional biceps curls because you 'drag' the barbell upward along your body, creating more intense isolation and reducing the use of momentum.

Execution: Begin by holding a barbell with an underhand grip, hands shoulder-width apart. Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart. Keep your elbows close to your body and 'drag' the barbell upward along your body until it almost touches your chest. Make sure your elbows move backward as you pull the barbell upward. Pause at the top and slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position.

Key Muscles: The primary focus is on the biceps brachii, particularly the long head. Secondary muscle groups engaged are the brachialis and brachioradialis.

Benefits: Drag curls help develop biceps thickness and peak. They reduce shoulder involvement, requiring your biceps to work harder. This can lead to better muscle definition and growth.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is using too much weight, causing you to swing or use your back to lift the barbell. Focus on a controlled movement and use a weight that you can handle correctly for the number of repetitions you perform.

Possible Alternatives: If you do not have a barbell, you can also perform this exercise with dumbbells or an EZ bar for variation. Another variation is performing the exercise on an incline bench, which changes the angle of the biceps stretch and may target different parts of the biceps.
