Cable Biceps Curl
The Cable Biceps Curl is a popular exercise that targets the strengthening and toning of your biceps. This exercise provides constant resistance through the cable, creating a unique challenge compared with traditional dumbbell curls.
Execution
-
1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a straight bar or rope to the cable.
-
2
Stand facing the machine, grasp the bar or rope with an underhand grip (palms facing upward), and keep your elbows close to your body.
-
3
Exhale and pull the bar or rope upward toward your chest by moving only your forearms. Keep your upper arms still.
-
4
Briefly hold the top position, then slowly return the bar or rope to the starting position while inhaling.
-
5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Increased muscle strength and mass in the biceps.
- Improved grip strength from holding the bar or rope.
- The ability to easily adjust the resistance for progressive overload.
- Stabilization of the elbow and shoulder during execution.
Common Mistakes
- ! Using too much weight, which can cause the body to swing. Focus on a weight that allows good form.
- ! Moving the elbows away from the body during the exercise. Keep them close to your sides for maximum effectiveness.
- ! Performing the movement too quickly. A slower, controlled movement provides maximum muscle activation.
Primary Muscles
The primary muscle group trained is the biceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups that may show some activity are the brachialis and brachioradialis, depending on the specific grip and execution.
Possible Alternatives
- Cable Hammer Curl for a variation that places more emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
- Standing dumbbell biceps curl if you do not have access to a cable machine.
- Cable preacher curl for a more isolated biceps workout.
