Execution

  1. 1
Find a comfortable chair and sit down with a dumbbell in each hand, your palms facing your body.
  2. 2
Keep your back straight and your shoulders back.
  3. 3
Exhale and lift one dumbbell toward your shoulder while keeping your elbow close to your body. Do not rotate your wrist; the dumbbell remains in a vertical position.
  4. 4
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the dumbbell back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement with the other arm. This is one repetition.

Benefits

  • Improves wrist stability and grip strength.
  • Helps develop more balanced muscle growth between the biceps and forearms.
  • Training while seated reduces the chance of cheating, leading to more effective muscle activation.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly, which can lead to less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your form to break down.
  • ! Allowing your elbows to move outward during the exercise.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii and brachialis. The forearm muscles and, to a lesser extent, the shoulder muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Standing Hammer Curls: For when you want to make the exercise more dynamic and build more core stability.
  • Preacher Hammer Curls: Excellent for isolating the biceps by using a preacher bench.
  • Adjustable Resistance Bands: A good alternative if you do not have access to dumbbells.
