David Beckham Biography

In 1991, Beckham signed a trial contract with Manchester United and made his Premier League debut there in 1995. The following year, he helped Manchester, along with Ryan Giggs among others, to the league title and the cup in England. In the 1998/99 season, he was an important part of the team that won the “treble”: the league championship, the cup, and the Champions League. In total, Beckham played 397 games for Manchester United, scoring 86 goals.

Beckham and Real Madrid

On June 17, 2003, Beckham signed with Real Madrid, which bought him from Manchester United for almost thirty million euros; that same year, he received the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth, in particular the rank of “Officer of the Order of the British Empire”. Not only did the footballing qualities move to Madrid, but also the brand ‘David Beckham’. Beckham is immensely popular in the Far East, and not entirely coincidentally, he moved to Madrid just before Real had a tour in the Far East. In the first seasons, David Beckham never reached the level at Real Madrid that everyone was used to from his time at Manchester United. Beckham wore shirt number 23 at Real Madrid, which would be a gesture to Michael Jordan, who always played with number 23 for the Chicago Bulls. Since 1996, Beckham has been an international player for England. As of 2008, Beckham has played 107 games for England, 39 of them as captain. In these matches, he scored 17 goals. After the 2006 World Cup in Germany, ‘The member of England’s 2006 World Cup squad’ passed on the captain’s armband. For the first international match after the tournament, a friendly against Greece, he was not called up, so it seemed that his international career was over. After almost a year, Beckham made his comeback in the English team in a friendly match against Brazil. Beckham married Victoria Adams (one of the singers of the British girl group the Spice Girls) on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle, near Dublin, Ireland. Their marriage has been in the spotlight of the press since the beginning of the 21st century. Especially after it became known in 2004 that the footballer would have had an affair with the Dutch woman Rebecca Loos. The couple has three sons and a daughter.
