Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the triceps.
  • Improved muscle isolation due to the incline of the bench.
  • May help improve overall arm strength and stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form.
  • ! Elbows too wide: Keep your elbows close to your body to effectively isolate the triceps.
  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly: Perform the movement slowly and under control to achieve maximum muscle activation.

Instructions

  1. Find an adjustable bench and set it to an incline of approximately 45 degrees.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie on your back on the bench.
  3. Hold the dumbbells above your chest with your arms fully extended and your palms facing each other.
  4. Slowly lower the dumbbells by bending your elbows. Keep your upper arms still and move only your forearms.
  5. Lower them until the dumbbells almost touch the bench.
  6. Push the dumbbells back to the starting position by contracting your triceps.

Main Muscles

The primary focus is the triceps brachii, but the exercise also lightly engages the shoulders and upper chest during the movement.

Possible Alternatives

  • Try the exercise with a barbell instead of dumbbells for a different grip and weight distribution.
  • Change the angle of the bench to emphasize different parts of the triceps.
  • Add a resistance band to the dumbbells for extra resistance during peak contraction.
