Benefits

  • Strengthens and tones the triceps.
  • Reduces the risk of shoulder injuries by placing less stress on the shoulders.
  • May help improve overall arm strength and stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to reduced effectiveness and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms at the top of the movement, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to flare out too far, which places unnecessary stress on the shoulders.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the triceps brachii, but also engages the forearms and the muscles around the elbow for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier dumbbell or switch to a bench to have a greater range of motion.
  • For beginners or people with limited mobility, consider using lighter weights or performing the exercise without weight to perfect the technique.
  • Another variation is the overhead dumbbell extension, which provides a slightly different angle for training the triceps.
