Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a flat bench with a dumbbell in each hand. Hold the dumbbells above your chest with your arms fully extended and your palms facing each other.
  2. 2
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells in a controlled manner by bending your elbows. Move the dumbbells toward the sides of your head until your forearms are slightly beyond parallel to the floor.
  3. 3
Exhale and lift the dumbbells back to the starting position by contracting your triceps and extending your elbows.
  4. 4
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Isolation of the triceps for effective muscle building.
  • Improvement of arm strength and shape.
  • Minimal strain on the shoulders, making it a safe choice for people with shoulder problems.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to reduced effectiveness and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Lowering too far, placing excessive strain on the elbows.
  • ! Moving the dumbbells too far backward or forward instead of straight down.

Main Muscles

The primary focus is on the triceps brachii, with secondary involvement of the forearms and slight stabilization from the shoulders.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise with a barbell instead of dumbbells.
  • For a lighter variation, use a resistance band attached to a fixed point above your head.
  • If you do not have access to weights, you can perform a similar movement using your body weight by doing triceps dips on a bench or chair.
