Cable Reverse-Grip Pushdown
The Cable Reverse-Grip Pushdown is an effective exercise for strengthening your triceps. This variation of the traditional pushdown uses a reverse grip, providing unique muscle stimulation.
Execution
-
1
Set the cable machine to a high position and attach a straight bar or EZ bar to the cable.
-
2
Stand facing the machine and grasp the bar with an underhand grip (palms facing up), approximately shoulder-width apart.
-
3
Lean slightly forward from your hips and keep your elbows close to your body.
-
4
Inhale and bring the bar down by extending your arms, focusing on using your triceps.
-
5
Hold briefly at the bottom of the movement, then exhale as you slowly return the bar to the starting position.
Benefits
- Strengthens and defines the triceps.
- Improves grip strength through the reverse grip.
- May help improve performance in other exercises that use the triceps.
Common Mistakes
- ! Using too much weight, which can lead to poor form and possible injuries.
- ! Not keeping the elbows close to the body, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
- ! Performing the movements too quickly, preventing optimal muscle stimulation.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the triceps brachii, with secondary involvement of the forearms due to the reverse grip.
Possible Alternatives
- For a lighter variation, you can use a resistance band instead of the cable machine.
- To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise with one arm at a time.
- Alternate with the traditional overhand grip to train different parts of the triceps.
