Seated Lateral Raises
Want to train your shoulders effectively? Seated Lateral Raises are an excellent exercise for developing the width and strength of your shoulders. This exercise specifically targets the sides of your shoulders, helping you build well-shaped and balanced shoulders.
Execution
-
1
Find a comfortable seated position on a bench or chair with your feet firmly on the floor.
-
2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and let them hang beside your body with your palms facing each other.
-
3
Inhale and raise both dumbbells out to the sides until your arms are parallel to the floor. Keep your elbows slightly bent.
-
4
Briefly hold this position, then lower the dumbbells in a controlled manner back to the starting position while exhaling.
-
5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves the shape and strength of your shoulders.
- Helps create balanced muscle development around the shoulder joint.
- May contribute to better posture by strengthening the shoulder and back muscles.
Common Mistakes
- ! Performing the movement too quickly, causing momentum to be used instead of muscle strength.
- ! Lifting the dumbbells too high, placing unnecessary strain on the neck muscles.
- ! Failing to keep your back straight during the exercise.
Main Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the lateral deltoids on the sides of your shoulders. The trapezius muscles in your neck and back and part of your upper arms are also trained lightly.
Possible Alternatives
- Standing Lateral Raises: The same movement performed standing for slightly different muscle activation.
- Seated Lateral Raises with a cable machine: For constant resistance throughout the entire movement.
- Seated Lateral Raises with resistance bands: A good option if you do not have access to dumbbells.
