Benefits

The Lying Overhead Reach helps improve shoulder mobility and may contribute to better posture. It strengthens and stabilizes the shoulders, which is essential for performing daily activities and other sports. It may also help reduce shoulder pain by improving flexibility and strength in this area.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Take your time with each repetition to experience the full benefits of the stretch.
  • ! Reaching too far: Do not force your body into an uncomfortable position. Reach only as far as is comfortable for you.
  • ! Arching the back: Keep your back flat on the floor to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise and prevent injuries.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily works the deltoids (shoulders), trapezius (upper back), and serratus anterior (the muscle group running along the ribs). It also helps stretch the chest muscles.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the exercise, you can hold light weights in your hands while performing the movement. Another variation is to perform the exercise on an exercise ball, which requires additional stability and core strength.
