Execution

  1. 1
Begin by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing forward.
  2. 2
Perform a biceps curl by lifting the dumbbells toward your shoulders while keeping your elbows close to your body.
  3. 3
Once the dumbbells reach your shoulders, rotate your wrists so your palms face forward and press the dumbbells overhead in an Arnold press.
  4. 4
Reverse the movement by bringing the dumbbells back to your shoulders, rotating your wrists back to the starting position, and slowly lowering the dumbbells to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

Combining a curl and press in one movement makes the Dumbbell Standing Curl Arnold Press a time-saving choice that helps build muscle mass and improve functional strength. It also improves coordination and promotes upper-body stability by engaging the core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight: Start with lighter weights to ensure proper form.
  • ! Moving too quickly: Perform each movement in a controlled and deliberate manner to get the most out of the exercise and prevent injuries.
  • ! Moving the elbows: Keep your elbows close to your body during the curl to maintain focus on the biceps.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii and the deltoids. The trapezius and triceps brachii are also engaged secondarily, as are the muscles in the forearms and core for stability.

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity, you can vary the weight of the dumbbells. For beginners, starting with lighter weights and gradually building up can be a good strategy. Alternatively, you can also perform the exercise with a resistance band for a different form of resistance.
