Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a single handle.
  2. 2
Stand with your side facing the machine and grasp the handle with the hand farthest from the machine.
  3. 3
Step away from the machine until the cable is slightly taut, and adopt a firm, wide stance.
  4. 4
Keep your arm almost straight and rotate your torso while lifting the handle diagonally overhead. Finish the movement with your arm fully extended and your body rotated toward the machine.
  5. 5
Return to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat for the desired number of repetitions before switching sides.

Benefits

  • Improves functional strength by imitating everyday movements.
  • Increases shoulder stability by training the small stabilizing muscles.
  • Strengthens the core and improves coordination and balance.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a controlled movement to train the muscles effectively and prevent injuries.
  • ! Using too much weight: This can lead to improper form and increase the risk of injury.
  • ! Not rotating fully: Make sure to complete a full twisting movement for maximum effectiveness.

Main Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the shoulder muscles (deltoids), upper back muscles, and triceps. It is also an excellent exercise for the core because you intensely engage your abdominal muscles and obliques during the twisting movement.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the cable machine is occupied, you can use a dumbbell or kettlebell for a similar movement.
  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise on one leg for additional balance and core training.
  • Beginners can first practice the movement without weight to master the technique.
