Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a standing position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Hinge forward from your hips and keep your back straight while bringing your hands toward the floor.
  3. 3
Once your hands touch the floor, “sweep” your hands out to the sides alongside your feet, as if sweeping an imaginary line along your feet.
  4. 4
Slowly return to the starting position and repeat the movement.

Benefits

The Back Sweeper helps build strength in the back muscles, which is essential for good posture and preventing back pain. It also improves the flexibility and mobility of the spine, contributing to better body alignment and range of motion.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on a controlled movement to train the muscles effectively and prevent injuries.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back remains straight while hinging forward to avoid pressure on your lower back.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the erector spinae, the muscle group that runs along your spine. The shoulder muscles and core are also engaged for a complete back and upper-body workout.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the Back Sweeper, you can consider adding weights by holding dumbbells during the exercise. For beginners, reducing the range of motion by not reaching all the way to the floor can help gradually build strength.
