  • Across Chest Shoulder Stretch

The Across Chest Shoulder Stretch is a simple but effective exercise for improving shoulder flexibility and range of motion. This stretch helps reduce tension in the shoulders and upper back, which is especially useful if you sit a lot or perform physical activities that place stress on the shoulders.

Instructions:

  1. Stand upright or sit on a chair with your back straight.
  2. Extend your right arm and bring it horizontally across your chest.
  3. Place your left hand on your right elbow.
  4. Gently pull your right arm with your left hand until you feel a stretch in your right shoulder.
  5. Hold this position for 15 to 30 seconds.
  6. Switch arms and repeat the stretch.

Primary Muscles:

This exercise primarily targets the deltoids (shoulder muscles) and the trapezius (upper back).

Benefits:

  • Improves shoulder mobility.
  • Relieves tension and stress in the shoulders and neck.
  • May help prevent injuries by improving flexibility.

Common Mistakes:

  • Pulling the arm too hard, which can lead to overstretching.
  • Shrugging the shoulders during the stretch.
  • Not stretching both sides evenly.

Possible Alternatives:

  • If the stretch is too intense, try reducing the pressure by pulling your arm less far across your chest.
  • For a deeper stretch, try the exercise while holding a towel between your hands behind your back.
