Execution

  1. 1
Begin by standing with your back against a wall. Make sure your feet are shoulder-width apart and approximately 60 cm from the wall.
  2. 2
Slowly bend your knees while keeping your back straight and pressed against the wall. Continue until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
  3. 3
Hold this position while ensuring that your knees do not move past your toes. Your body should form a 90-degree angle.
  4. 4
Stay in this position for 20 to 60 seconds, depending on your fitness level.
  5. 5
Slowly return to the starting position by straightening your legs.
  6. 6
Repeat the exercise for 2–3 sets.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and endurance of the lower-body muscles.
  • Helps develop better posture and balance.
  • May help reduce the risk of injuries by strengthening the muscles around the knees and hips.
  • Is a safe exercise for people of all fitness levels because the risk of injury is low.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Allowing the knees to move too far forward, which can place pressure on the knees.
  • ! Not lowering far enough, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Failing to keep the back straight against the wall, which can lead to back problems.

Primary Muscles

The Wall Squat Bodyweight exercise primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), while the hamstrings (back of the thighs), glutes, calves, and core muscles are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can wear a weighted vest or hold a dumbbell/kettlebell while performing the exercise.
  • For a less intense variation, you can shorten the time you remain in the squat position.
  • Alternatively, you can try single-leg wall squats, extending one leg while squatting with the other leg.
