Benefits

  • Strengthens and tones the muscles of the lower body and core.
  • Improves cardiovascular health by increasing the heart rate.
  • Improves coordination and balance.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Cycling too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed.
  • ! Not keeping your back flat on the floor: This can lead to back pain. Make sure to engage your core to protect your back.
  • ! Straining your neck: Keep your neck relaxed by not pushing your hands too hard against the back of your head.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the abdominal muscles, including the rectus abdominis and obliques, as well as the quadriceps, hamstrings, and calf muscles in your legs.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can wear ankle weights.
  • For a lower intensity, reduce the height of your legs or perform the exercise with one leg at a time.
  • If you have access to a fitness ball, you can try air cycling while placing your feet on the ball for extra stability and another variation.
