Execution

  1. 1
Find a flat wall and stand with your back against it.
  2. 2
Step your feet approximately 60 cm away from the wall.
  3. 3
Slowly bend your knees until your thighs are parallel to the floor, as if sitting on an invisible chair.
  4. 4
Make sure your knees are above your ankles and keep your back straight against the wall.
  5. 5
Hold this position for as long as you can, starting with 20 seconds and building up.
  6. 6
Slowly stand up to finish the exercise.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and endurance of the lower-body muscles.
  • Increases core stability.
  • May help improve posture.
  • No equipment required, so it can be performed anywhere.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Standing too far from the wall, causing the knees to extend too far over the toes.
  • ! Not lowering far enough, so the thighs are not parallel to the floor.
  • ! Not keeping the back straight against the wall.

Primary Muscles

The Wall Sit Bodyweight exercise primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), but the hamstrings (back of the thighs), calves, glutes, and core are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, try placing a weight on your lap.
  • For a lighter variation, reduce the time spent in the seated position.
  • Add a ball between your knees to train the inner thighs more.
