Stiff-Legged Deadlift

The Stiff-Legged Deadlift is a powerful exercise that targets the lower back, hamstrings, and glutes. This variation of the traditional deadlift places more emphasis on the posterior chain, making it an excellent choice for improving posture and increasing overall strength.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin with your feet hip-width apart and a barbell on the floor in front of you.
  2. 2
Hinge at your hips and grip the barbell with an overhand grip, your hands just outside your knees.
  3. 3
Keep your back straight and your shoulders back. Lift the barbell by driving your hips forward and straightening your legs.
  4. 4
Slowly lower the barbell back to the floor by pushing your hips backward and keeping your knees slightly bent.
  5. 5
Make sure your back remains straight throughout the exercise.

Benefits

  • Improves posture by strengthening the lower back and hamstrings.
  • Increases overall strength, contributing to better performance in other exercises.
  • Helps prevent injuries by strengthening the lower back and improving hamstring flexibility.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Rounding your back during the exercise, which can lead to injuries.
  • ! Hinging too far at the hips, placing too much emphasis on the lower back.
  • ! Bending your knees too much, turning it into more of a traditional deadlift.

Targeted Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the hamstrings, lower back, and glutes. It also strengthens the core and grip.

Possible Alternatives

  • Single-Leg Deadlift: For an additional challenge and focus on balance.
  • Romanian Deadlift: Keeps the legs slightly more bent than the Stiff-Legged Deadlift for less strain on the lower back.
  • Kettlebell Deadlift: A good variation for beginners or those working on improving their technique.
