Slow Burpees
Slow burpees are a variation of the traditional burpee in which you perform the movements more slowly and with greater control. This approach helps improve your stability, strength, and coordination while still providing a full-body workout.
Execution
-
1
Begin in a standing position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
-
2
Bend your knees and place your hands on the floor in front of you.
-
3
Jump or step your feet back so that you land in a plank position.
-
4
Keep your body straight and your core engaged, then slowly lower yourself into a push-up.
-
5
Push yourself back up into the plank position.
-
6
Jump or step your feet back toward your hands.
-
7
Rise slowly and jump explosively upward, optionally clapping overhead.
-
8
Repeat the movement at a slow and controlled pace.
Benefits
- Improved overall body strength.
- Increased core stability and balance.
- Improved cardiovascular fitness.
- Increased fat burning due to the high intensity of the exercise.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving through the exercise too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed.
- ! Allowing your back to sag during the plank or push-up: Keep your core engaged to maintain a straight back.
- ! Allowing your knees to cave inward during the squat: Make sure your knees stay aligned with your feet.
Key Muscles
Slow burpees train a wide range of muscle groups, including the chest, shoulders, triceps, abdominals, lower back, glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings.
Possible Alternatives
- If the push-up is too challenging, place your knees on the floor for a modified version.
- For an extra challenge, add a tuck jump instead of a regular jump at the end of the movement.
- To reduce the intensity, step your feet instead of jumping during the transition to and from the plank position.
