Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a push-up position with a dumbbell in each hand. Make sure your hands are directly under your shoulders and your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels.
  2. 2
Perform a push-up by bending your elbows and lowering your body toward the floor. Keep your core tight and your back straight.
  3. 3
Push yourself back up to the starting position.
  4. 4
After the push-up, stabilize your body on one arm and perform a single-arm row with the other arm. Pull the dumbbell toward your side while keeping your elbow close to your body.
  5. 5
Place the dumbbell back on the floor and repeat the row with the other arm.
  6. 6
Repeat the full cycle for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

The dumbbell push-up to row improves not only your strength but also your balance and coordination. Adding the rowing movement to the push-up provides an additional challenge for your core, improving your stability and functional strength. In addition, this exercise helps develop better posture by strengthening the muscles involved in keeping your body upright.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed. A controlled execution ensures maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Letting the hips sag: Keep your body in a straight line during the push-up and rowing movement to engage your core and prevent back pain.
  • ! Elbow too far from the body during the rowing movement: Keep your elbow close to your body to activate the correct muscles and avoid shoulder injuries.

Key Muscles

This exercise targets multiple muscle groups, including the chest muscles, triceps, deltoids (shoulders), latissimus dorsi (lats), rhomboids (upper back), and core (including the abdominals and lower back).

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity, you can vary the dumbbell weight or modify the exercise:

  • For beginners: Perform the push-up with your knees on the floor to make the exercise easier.
  • To increase the intensity: Add an explosive push-up or increase the dumbbell weight.
  • Without dumbbells: Perform a push-up followed by a plank with one arm lifted as an alternative to the rowing movement.
