Dumbbell Squeeze Press
The Dumbbell Squeeze Press is an effective chest exercise that targets the inner chest muscles. By pressing the dumbbells together while performing the exercise, you activate the muscles in a unique way that is less emphasized in traditional chest exercises.
Execution
-
1
Start by picking up two dumbbells and lie on your back on a flat bench.
-
2
Hold the dumbbells with a neutral grip (palms facing each other) and press them together above the center of your chest.
-
3
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells in a controlled manner while continuing to press them firmly together.
-
4
Make sure your elbows point outward throughout the movement.
-
5
Press the dumbbells back up to the starting position while exhaling, and maintain pressure on the dumbbells throughout.
Benefits
- Improves muscle activation within the chest muscles through constant pressure.
- Helps develop a more defined chest line.
- Strengthens the muscles around the chest for better overall stability.
Common Mistakes
- ! Lowering and raising the weights too quickly: keep the movement controlled.
- ! Not applying enough pressure to the dumbbells: maintain constant pressure to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise.
- ! Lowering the dumbbells too close to the neck: this can lead to unnecessary strain on the shoulders.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major and minor), but the triceps and deltoids are also engaged by the movement and stabilization.
Possible Alternatives
- Use a resistance band with the dumbbells for additional resistance during the press.
- Perform the exercise on an incline bench to place more emphasis on the upper chest muscles.
- If you do not have dumbbells, you can also perform this exercise with a medicine ball.
