Dumbbell Incline Squeeze Press
The Dumbbell Incline Squeeze Press is a powerful exercise that targets the chest muscles while also giving the triceps and shoulders a good workout. What makes this exercise unique is the combination of pressing and squeezing, which provides intense activation of the chest muscles.
Execution
-
1
Set a bench to an incline position of approximately 30 to 45 degrees.
-
2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie on your back on the bench.
-
3
Hold the dumbbells above your chest with a neutral grip, with your palms facing each other.
-
4
Press the dumbbells together over the centre of your chest; this is your starting position.
-
5
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the dumbbells towards your chest while continuously applying pressure to the dumbbells.
-
6
Exhale and press the dumbbells back to the starting position, maintaining pressure on the dumbbells throughout the entire movement.
-
7
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves chest muscle definition through the combination of pressing and squeezing.
- Helps develop symmetry between the left and right sides of the chest.
- Strengthens the triceps and shoulders through the incline position.
Common Mistakes
- ! Not continuously applying pressure to the dumbbells throughout the entire exercise.
- ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to less muscle activation and a higher risk of injury.
- ! Lowering the dumbbells too far, which can place unnecessary stress on the shoulders.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily trains the chest muscles (pectoralis major and minor), while the triceps and anterior deltoids are also engaged.
Possible Alternatives
- If the incline squeeze press is too challenging, try the flat bench squeeze press to start.
- For an extra challenge, increase the incline angle or use heavier dumbbells.
- Use a resistance band around your back and under the dumbbells for extra resistance during the press.
