Decline Push-Up Against Wall
The Decline Push-Up Against Wall is a variation of the traditional push-up that focuses on strengthening your upper body from a unique angle. By positioning your feet higher than your hands, you increase the intensity and focus on the upper chest muscles and shoulders.
Execution
-
1
Find a stable wall and place your hands on the floor shoulder-width apart, approximately one metre from the wall.
-
2
Place your feet against the wall so that your body forms an incline with the floor.
-
3
Engage your abdominal muscles and keep your body straight like a plank.
-
4
Slowly lower yourself by bending your elbows until your chest almost touches the floor.
-
5
Push yourself back up to the starting position.
Benefits
The Decline Push-Up Against Wall helps build strength in the upper chest and shoulders, contributing to better posture and functional strength. It is also an excellent exercise for improving overall stability and core strength.
Common Mistakes
- ! Going too deep: This can lead to overloading the shoulders. Make sure your chest almost touches the floor, but does not touch it completely.
- ! Not keeping your back straight: A sagging or raised hip can reduce the effectiveness of the exercise and lead to back pain.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the upper chest muscles (pectoralis major), shoulders (deltoids), and triceps. The abdominal muscles and muscles in the lower back are also used as stabilisers.
Possible Alternatives
If the Decline Push-Up Against Wall is too challenging, you can start with regular push-ups or push-ups with your knees on the floor to build strength. For more of a challenge, you can increase the height of your feet or wear a weighted vest.
