Clap Push-Ups

Clap Push-Ups are a dynamic variation of the traditional push-up, in which you push powerfully to lift your hands off the ground and clap in the air before landing again. This exercise not only raises your heart rate but also improves your explosive strength and coordination.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin in the standard push-up position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Engage your core and keep your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
  3. 3
Lower yourself toward the ground by bending your elbows.
  4. 4
Push yourself powerfully up from the ground so that your hands leave the floor.
  5. 5
Clap your hands in the air before landing back in the starting position.
  6. 6
When landing, slightly bend your elbows to absorb the impact.

Benefits

  • Improves explosive strength in the upper-body muscles.
  • Raises the heart rate, contributing to fat burning.
  • Improves coordination and reaction time.
  • Strengthens the core through the need for stability during the exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering or pushing up too quickly, resulting in a loss of control.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms during the push-up.
  • ! Allowing the back to sag or lifting the hips, which leads to incorrect form.

Key Muscles

Clap Push-Ups target the chest muscles (pectoralis major), triceps, anterior deltoids, and core for stability.

Possible Alternatives

If Clap Push-Ups are too challenging, begin with regular push-ups or wall push-ups to build strength. For more of a challenge, try performing multiple claps before landing or doing explosive push-ups with alternating hand positions.
