Execution

  1. 1
Begin by setting the cable machines to chest height and placing a bench in the middle of the machine.
  2. 2
Lie on the bench with your feet firmly on the floor and grip the cable handles.
  3. 3
Start with your arms extended above your chest, palms facing each other.
  4. 4
Slowly and under control, lower your arms out to the sides in a fly motion, keeping a slight bend in your elbows.
  5. 5
Once your arms are parallel to the floor, bring them back to the starting position by squeezing your chest muscles.
  6. 6
Perform the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle definition through a combination of stretching and contraction.
  • Increases flexibility and range of motion in the shoulders.
  • Provides constant tension on the chest muscles, leading to more intense muscle stimulation.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movements too quickly: Focus on a slow, controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start light and gradually increase the weight.
  • ! Not keeping your back flat on the bench: This can cause unnecessary strain on the lower back.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major, but also engages the triceps, deltoids, and serratus anterior.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise on an incline or decline bench for variation in muscle activation.
  • For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by using one arm at a time, which helps you focus on technique.
  • If a cable machine is not available, similar movements can be performed with dumbbells or resistance bands.
