Execution

  1. 1
Begin by standing in a stable position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Extend your arms parallel to the floor on both sides of your body.
  3. 3
Swing your right arm under your left arm and then your left arm under your right arm, as if hugging yourself.
  4. 4
Return to the starting position and repeat the movement, this time with the other arm on top.
  5. 5
Perform the exercise for the desired number of repetitions, ensuring a smooth movement.

Benefits

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion in the shoulders and chest.
  • Helps prevent injuries by warming up the muscles before a workout.
  • May help relieve tension and stiffness in the upper body.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Use a controlled movement to warm up the muscles effectively.
  • ! Stretching too far: Avoid overstretching to prevent injuries.
  • ! Not fully returning to the starting position: Ensure that your arms are fully extended to get the most out of the exercise.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major and the shoulder muscles (deltoids). The arm muscles (biceps and triceps) are also lightly engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use light weights or resistance bands during the exercise.
  • For lower intensity or if you have shoulder problems, reduce the range of motion.
  • Try the Dynamic Chest Stretch, in which you begin in a similar starting position but move your arms quickly forward and backward, as if clapping without letting your hands touch.
